Bugs, dust, wind and rain. Four reasons to choose the right camping tent for your car camping or backpacking adventure. Below is a list of factors to consider when shopping for the right camping tent:
- Do you need a three season tent for spring, summer and fall or is late fall and winter time camping in your plans? If so purchase a four season camping tent. Keep in mind that four season tents are 10 to 20 percent heavier than three season tents.
- Will you be backpacking or car camping?
- Do you need a convertible tent? This tent can transition from a three person tent to a four person tent with the addition of poles
- Will you be backpacking and want an extra light tent? Stakes will be required so a freestanding camping tent should not be considered.
- Purchase a free standing tent if ultra light backpacking is not your forte. They are heavier yet easy to move and shake as needed. If ultra light backpacking is your thing click here for GoLite gear.
- How many persons at most will you expect for your camping outings? The capacity ratings on tents are conservative so be prepared to purchase a larger tent for example: if there are two persons and gear you should consider a three person tent.
- Would added rooms add to your overall experience? Additional rooms are great for extra persons, gear, for cooking, and for your dog.
- Be sure to include a tarp or footprint to help extend the life of the tent’s floor.
